You don’t have to be a California blonde following your ex to law school in order to learn a few imperative tips about navigating law school from the movie "Legally Blonde."

1. Prepare for change

Like Elle when she was studying for the LSAT, be prepared to sacrifice some recreation you may have enjoyed in undergrad for hitting the books in law school. One of the hardest things about law school is the discipline and diligence required to understand what you are reading.

2. First Day Assignments

Elle was caught off guard on the first day of law school, but you don’t have to be. Assignments are given before the first day of class. Be ready if you are "cold-called" on, and get used to it! Stetson professors appreciate the earnest efforts of their students when preparation is evident in answering questions.

3. Reality Shock

The reality of law school may not be what you expected. However, maintain your sense of self, and remember how far you have come to get into law school. Your professors care. Go see them for academic advice and guidance. They really want to help you.

4. Stick to a Schedule

Elle knew the wonders of having a schedule. Try to be like Elle at her prime: take notes before class, actively participate during class, and work out after class. Your diligence will surely lead to academic success. Developing a schedule early in the semester, and keeping it, will help to ease any stress that naturally develops as you transition into law school. Stetson’s 24-hour library and gym will add to your success in whatever schedule you develop.

5. Manicure, Please!

Elle made time to do something for herself that she enjoyed. Getting manicures always made her feel better and gave her time to unwind. Take inventory of what you enjoy doing before attending law school, and find time during law school to do it. Stetson offers yoga classes, a variety of intramural sports activities (softball, flag football, etc.). Additionally, Stetson’s free "On Campus Counselor" is always available to help you de-stress.

Keep these notes handy, as I’m sure they will be helpful. I may have more for you—friends always share good things!
